CCR Question #1 draft

For our film "Faint of Heart" we used conventions in a number of ways. We looked at films like "Vampires Suck" and "Scary Movie" to look at the use of conventions in film today.  For example the use of dialogue. We used dialogue to develop our story like in most films. Our dialogue specifically was used to create a somewhat satirical feeling to the film as our idea of the vampire being afraid of blood was unconventional; However it was comedic and added to the film as it was a parody or a spoof.

Next, the use of incidental music. The music choice "Man Eater" by Hall & Oates that was played in the beginning of the film was used for a number of reasons. First we choose to put music in the beginning during the parallel editing of Svetlana walking around and Ed getting ready to add a layer to those scenes because they were rather quite and dull without the music due to the fact that there was no dialogue in those scenes. We also choose this song specifically because it gives a little foreshadowing of the characters.

Also, we used the rule of thirds through the parallel editing in the beginning. This allowed for a nice layout of the film that was pleasing to the eye. it focused the watchers attention on the characters actions and drew ones eye to the actors helping the story unfold. With the rule of thirds in play this also allowed us to run credits. The credits were visible and easy to see due to the rule of thirds.

The use of credits in the beginning of the extract gave it more of a film/movie feeling rather than a short film that would play the credits at the end. Originally we had our credits playing at the end in the first draft but upon review we decided to run them in the beginning to create a feeling that there is a plot and climax still after this small excerpt of the movie.

Our choice of location also was conventional. We used a dark area by a running path which gives more of an eerie and mysterious feeling.

Also choice of costume and props was conventional. We had Svetlana wearing all black to make her stand out as the mysterious or dangerous one. We also had Svetlanna wear fangs in the scenes at the running trail. We used ketchup as fake blood to give a visual of the blood that Svetlana would see then ultimately pass out from.
